אנא בכוח please…

November 26, 2010

what a wonderful performance

for me this song, prayer,  פיוט , is so exact, and “connected”.

it is also a prayer of transition. from “up” to “down” . body and soul. life and death.

and of that special israeli moment, friday afternoon as Shabat is coming. בואי מלכה

from doing to being

learned about this song from my 5 year old daughter as she was humming it and not understanding the words:

to understand the words which i find complicated, here is an explanation

live

July 18, 2010

i have a resolution and a recommendation:

for increased happiness in life, i have a few wishes. some i guess are fantasies that are best left unotuched.

others are totally achievable and i think widely applicable to most of us

so here is one of hopefully a longer list

go see a live musical performance once a month

the verbs are listen, watch, enjoy, open your heart.

the power of music is huge.

and that’s coming from a guy is quite talented, allbeit not at all in music.

it is great that you can greatly enjoy something you are not good at

enough about me

now it is about you

live music

once a month….

הבית שלי הבית שלך – keep families together

April 24, 2010

ever been rejected? not a nice feeling

what about kicked out?

and taken away from your parents?

if you believe being an Israeli, or a Zionist, or a human being means being an example to others; if it means not repeating things we did not like when they were done to us;  here is a chance to take 4 minutes and help 1200 kids stay in Israel rather than be deported from Israel because they are a liability. why are they a liability?

music on the go – Lifetrons micro speakers

April 6, 2010

unfortunately, i am a critical person. very hard to satisfy. i tell myself that there is a balance in that: once i am satisfied, it is a real satisfaction. nice little personal lie. but it works. try it.

so, when is see a great product:

  • good design,
  • quality performance,
  • reasonable price

i become happy and hopeful.

it also generates a sense of ownership in me.

happens to me with good clothing. it happens with cars (think Peugeot 205 GTI – the car that changed my life. red GTI.)

in a related but very different way, art does that to me. think Gerhard Richter’ The Cage Paintings‘ at the Tate Modern, or Monet water lilies at the orangerie.

Breath taking. you have to sit down and try to grasp

Now back to products, not art.

music on the go is important. da. iPod is an indication. so was the walkman.

but if you travel a lot, you also want great sound in your hotel room. or when you are with friend.

picked up the Lifetrons drumbass micro speaker

i recommend it:

  • well designed
  • extremely small and therefore mobile. check out the picture again to see the minute proportions
  • connects to iphone and laptops, thru the hand set connection. charges thru a USB port.
  • no other plugs, can almost carry in your pocket.
  • (have not checked on battery life yet, but i am counting on the easy recharge using USB)

and most importantly

  • great sound. surprisingly good.

soulja boy – כבר בר-מצוה

March 5, 2010

soulja boy

is a very popular song for some time

check out the number of views, not insignificant

the beauty is that thousands of remakes were made for it

you can watch them on youtube

an israeli boy, Ben Dadia, in preparation for his bar-mitvah prepared this lovely, well made video

great job, kid. though you do not look bar-mitvah age. if you were my boy, you would get a big hug.

but also note that:

he is not really high IQ.

he does not pronounce words correctly. especially distinguishing between aleph hei and ain

replay if you wish, but note, the “aahhherev”

so here is a remake, a response

interestingly, it is more watched then ben dadia’s piece

i cracked up laughing.

hope you did too.

still my hero here is ben dadia. lovely boy

here is a related video

do you know how it is related?

plastics

February 9, 2010

plastics is not only the future

(boy, i liked that movie -the graduate. for its music, its promise and pressure of the future, and for its lack of predictability. and a great depiction of a great time period)

it is also an answer to a deep philosophical question:

why are we here?

George Carlin – Saving the Planet

JD Salinger and dry dates

January 30, 2010

JD Salinger, best known for his 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye, as well as his reclusive nature is gone

a few thoughts:

  • i may or may not be still in my adolescence, but agree with holden that most adults are “phony”
  • where do the central park lagoon ducks go during winter? they have a recluse in the park
  • it is hard to walk in Central Park and not think of holden, the book and my brother, Ofer, who connected to its loneliness so fully

for trivia lovers, worth while to read on

DRY DATES

JD salinger had a broken heart. this is where some of the best art comes from

out of fracture, comes greatness.

the girl’s name?

oona o’neill daughter of of Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning  playwriter  Eugene O’Neill and writer Agnes Boulton.

for those who may remember, O’neill was played by  Jack Nicholson in the movie Reds (for a review of this great film, click here)(along side the fantastic Diane Keaton). which directly makes me think of Reds’ star, co-writer, producer and director Warren Beatty about whom Carly Simon sang, ‘You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you’. more about beatty simon and their dates in a second.

oona o’neill also dated

  • cartoonist Peter Arno,
  • director Orson Welles,
  • (and as stated above, author J. D. Salinger). To Salinger’s disappointment, however, their relationship ended when she met
  • Charlie Chaplin and later become Lady Chaplin, (therefore Salinger’s broken heart).

arno who perhaps is least known today was multi-talented, rich, and handsome.  He exuberated confidence. his sketches were funny, satirical, unique and risky. like the one above.

anyhow, seems that oona had something about her

Beatty

Beatty has had several high-profile relationships with his costars, including Natalie Wood (Splendor in the Grass), Julie Christie (McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Shampoo, Heaven Can Wait), Diane Keaton (Reds), Isabelle Adjani (Ishtar) and Madonna (Dick Tracy).

not bad

back to carly simon

who i think is totally wonderful

is also well known for “Anticipation“, which was used as the soundtrack for TC commercials  for Heinz ketchup in the 1970s. The song relates Simon’s state of mind as she waits to go on a date with Cat Stevens. After their brief liaison during 1970-1971 ended amicably, Stevens wrote his song “Sweet Scarlet” about Simon, who also had highly publicized relationships with Warren Beatty, Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, and James Taylor during this period.

Oona dated cartoonist Peter Arno, director Orson Welles, and author J. D. Salinger.[citation needed] To Salinger’s disappointment, however, their relationship ended when she met Charlie Chaplin

4 minutes

January 24, 2010

i you have not seen the movie ‘vier minuten’, you should consider it.

here is a clip

one of my takeaways:

out of fracture comes greatness

all you need is love
